The Rocket was made of aluminium and was around 7 ft tall. The Nose cone was designed to deploy due to the effect of gravity once the rocket reached apogee. The avionics system was designed using Arduino and BRICS boards and the main system and the redundant system were connected together via a multiplexer so that if in any case one system should fail, the other system can easily kick in. The payload was designed such that once deployed due to the motion of the payload, the auto-gyro system would enable the payload to land safely whilst coming down in a helical path.
Rocket Design an Specifications
The length of the rocket is 7.1 ft and its diameter is 0.41 ft (5 in).
The material used for fabrication of the rocket is aluminum 6063.
Four fins of trapezoidal shape are used for stability during rocket ascent and these are made of 2 mm aluminum sheets.
The Nose Cone is parabolic of length 0.40 meters and it is made up of aluminum 6061.
Coefficient of Gravity (Cg) = 128 cm
Coefficient of Pressure (Cp) = 146 cm
Compared to other teams our rocket was one of the cheapest and was made from scratch by students.
The Parachute Deployment system which involved no gun powder and was reliant only on gravitational force really intrigued the judges and competitors and though most were doubtful worked perfectly thus allowing the team to gain a special mention at the award ceremony.
