This report responds to the progress of the recent meeting with Payload Sub-Section Department and the Documentation Department of Team Garud, addressed by the Team Leader.
2. The Documentation members were briefed regarding the making of the Team’s Brochure and the do’s and don’ts were clearly discussed.
2. The members have been asked to do research on the proposed ideas in order to get the information whether the above ideas are feasible or not. 3. The Documentation Department will be submitting the Brochure on Thursday to the concerned authorities of the Team. Altogether, the members have been given an insight of how the team has to work in the coming months. There will be a pause in the work for a week or so due to the End Semester Examinations but it will be resumed at full pace soon after they are over. Team registrations are going on, and we have 65+ registrations and counting, from UPES and also from outside the university. Certainly, the task force required is Aerospace Engineering and Electronics Engineering, but the possibility to find and experiment, drives us to make a team of varied domains of engineering. For instance, Computer Science students with a good skill in GUI development using C/C++, Python or Visual Studio are warmly welcome to join us!
One of the most interesting measures while building the registration form was the section, 'your Innovative Idea'. IREC is not just about building and testing a rocket, it is about exploring the opportunity to innovate, to find and experiment possible ideas. A great man once said, "Great knowledge often comes from the humblest of origins." Students have certainly been very thorough with their Ideas and some really have turned out to be promising. The students who have already registered, should stay patient and prepare themselves with their strategies for the project. You should expect your call for interviews anytime after Diwali vacations. The most recent update on project IREC is as follows: Before everyone left for the summer vacations, the senior members of the team met with Dr Gurunadh Velidi (Team Mentor) to discuss the possibilities of innovative measures for the rocket design. Various ideas were considered, including those that were proposed by the registered students. Aerospace Division has already made a mark with respect to the Rocket Design, yet the possibility of improvement drives the motivated engineer's mind. The ideas of release mechanism, recovery and payload deployment were discussed in detail, and tasks assigned. The Department of Electronics, dealing with designing a control system for unique way of recovery of the rocket and the payload, have been assigned to identify the possible solutions and run initial required simulations. In the meanwhile, ground static testing of an indigenous made solid rocket fuel is underway. As it happens, we have managed to identify certain solid fuels and their making, which hopefully will be tested in these Diwali holidays itself. One of the primary challenges we face is finance. An early response team will be tackling this issue, so that per head cost of development of the project is minimized. Further, sponsorship options are being explored and also talks with a few companies are underway. The travel expense is a challenge yet to be addressed. Partial grants are provided by the university, but we know, we can do better on that front as well. Keeping this issue a priority, we moved on to discussion of team structure and formation. We really hope, that people interested, join us to learn, to work and place a mark in world that never diminishes. With this positive note, we, team Garud wish you all.. A very Happy Diwali! |
